A garden journal from Devon, England

A garden grows.
So do we.

A 500 m² garden, a 12 m² greenhouse and a collection that ranges from Japanese maples to giant sequoias — just outside Wembury.

In the greenhouse

Making the most of a 12 m² greenhouse

The greenhouse is just 12 square metres, so every shelf and sunny patch has to earn its place.

A palm tree in a Devon garden

A palm tree is an unexpected sight in an English garden — and that is part of what makes this one interesting.

The quiet character of Acer palmatum

A Japanese maple has a quieter presence than the garden’s palms and giant sequoia, but it still draws the eye.

Hello, I'm Matteo

A little patch of Devon, with plants from much further afield.

I live in a small village near Wembury in Devon. My garden is about 500 m², with a 12 m² greenhouse tucked among the beds and trees.

There is a Trachycarpus fortunei, an Acer palmatum, a Sequoiadendron giganteum and several kinds of rhododendron — alongside plenty more. I enjoy the contrast between plants with very different shapes, origins and scale.

World of Plants is where I share what is growing here, and what I learn along the way.
